Magnesium alloy ingots are alloys based on magnesium combined with other elements. Their key characteristics include low density (approximately 1.8 g/cm³), high specific strength, a large specific modulus of elasticity, good heat dissipation, excellent shock absorption, and a greater impact load capacity than aluminum alloy. They also offer strong resistance to organic substances and alkali corrosion.

The main alloying elements are aluminum, zinc, manganese, cerium, thorium, and a small amount of zirconium or cadmium. Magnesium-aluminum alloys are currently the most widely used, followed by magnesium-manganese alloys and magnesium-zirconium alloys. These materials are primarily used in the aviation, aerospace, transportation, chemical, and rocket industries, among other industrial sectors.

Among practical metals, magnesium is a lightweight metal. Its specific gravity is approximately 2/3 that of aluminum and 1/4 that of iron, offering a high degree of rigidity.
